Xreading Extensive Reading Assignment
Extensive Reading is very important for language development. Students need to be reading in English throughout the term outside of the classroom. For this assignment, the ELI has chosen Xreading.com because they are affordable for students and also geared specifically towards ESL students.
Students will need to buy a subscription card at the MSU bookstore. They are currently good for one year's worth of unlimited digital reading access. Students will need to subscribe throughout their ELI time. Once students complete the ELI, they can have their subscription continued in a special ELI Xreading class that allows the students complete access to all the Xreading books (regular students are limited to the books assigned to their levels). A one year's subscription is much cheaper than buying an additional graded reader each term.
Students can read on their phones (via the html5 website) or on a computer. Students are expected to spend approx. 1 hour each week reading at home.
