International Faculty, Staff and Visiting Scholars
As an Exchange Visitor you are required by law to obtain and maintain medical insurance that covers you and your dependants for a minimum of $50,000 per accident or illness with a maximum deductable of $500 per accident or illness during the period of time you are participating in the Missouri State’s exchange visitor program. In addition, you are also required to purchase insurance for medical evacuation at a minimum of $10,000 and repatriation at a minimum of $7,500. The Missouri State University insurance plan for full time does not provide the required medical evacuation and repatriation insurance; therefore, you will need to purchase this coverage separately. If a friend cannot direct you to a physician or dentist, look in the Yellow Pages of the phone book or in the information provided by your insurance company. It is essential to telephone for an appointment before going to a doctor or dentist. You may have to wait a few days or weeks for an appointment unless you are sick or in need of a doctor immediately. In those instances, you can either go to the emergency room at one of the hospitals, or go to a walk-in clinic. In the case of an emergency dial 911 and an operator will assist you.
