  1. The sponsoring department/college will identify a prospective visiting scholar.
  2. The sponsoring department/college will contact the University's Office of Equity and Diversity.
  3. The Office of Equity and Diversity will provide a DS2019 application to the sponsoring department/college.
  4. The sponsoring department/college with input from visiting scholar will complete and return the DS2019 application and a sponsor letter.
  5. The Office of Equity and Diversity will send copies of  the DS2019 and sponsor letter, and insurance informaton (which is required) to the visiting scholar.
  6. The visiting scholar will review and understand the U.S. Department of State's Exchange Visitor (J) Visa Program
  7. The visiting scholar will obtain a valid exchange visitor visa.
  8. The visiting scholar will take the visa, passport, DS2019, MSU sponsor letter, and letter of support from a current employer or government to the U.S. Consulate.
  9. When arriving on campus, the visiting scholar will go to the Office of Equity and Diversity within 20 days with the visa, passport, DS-2019, and proof of insurance.
