Missouri State University Study Abroad Scholarships

There are many Missouri State University scholarship opportunities, and students can narrow down options by visiting the MSU Scholarships site. Students can also check with their academic departments for information about departmental scholarships. Questions about scholarships and financial aid should be directed to the Office of Financial Aid.

The Study Away Voucher

All Missouri State students who enrolled as first-time college students between fall 2009 and spring 2011 will be eligible to receive a $500 Missouri State University Study Away Voucher. Likewise, MSU – West Plains students who are transferring to the Springfield campus with an Associate’s degree between fall 2009 and spring 2011 are eligible to receive the voucher.

To qualify, first-time college students (who enrolled between fall 2009 and spring 2011) must successfully complete one academic year of full-time enrollment at Missouri State Springfield campus and be in good academic standing. MSU West Plains students transferring to the Springfield campus will have automatically met this requirement upon completion of their Associate's degree. The voucher may be used to help cover the costs of an officially approved study away experience.The voucher may be used for tuition, travel expenses, living expenses, or any other expenses related to the study away program.

The McCarthy Study Abroad Travel Fund

This scholarship awards funds in variable amounts up to $1,000 to students studying abroad. Award amounts are based on students' financial need and program cost. 

This scholarship is a need-based scholarship for full-time, degree-seeking students with a minimum 2.5 GPA who are applying for an approved Study Away Program. This may be a semester, summer, or short-term faculty led approved program.

Students must complete the McCarthy Study Abroad Travel Fund by the following deadlines:

  • October 15, 2013 for Winter Intersession and Spring 2013-14, Spring 2014, Spring Break 2014
  • April 3, 2013 for Summer and Fall Intersession 2013, Summer 2013, and Fall 2013

MSU Foundation Scholarships for Study Away Students

Missouri State University offers nearly 1,000 donor-funded scholarships that provide over 1,100 awards with an average value of $1,100.00.  Of those, donors have set-up scholarships specifically for Students involved in Missouri State University Study Away Programs or scholarships in which those students have an edge over other applicants.  In addition to those opportunities, all students have a strong chance of being selected for an award, with nearly 1 in 3 applicants receiving a scholarship.

Al-Babtain Library Arabic Culture/Language Scholarship

Awarded to a student with plans on enrolling in an intensive Arabic Language Program in a country in the Middle East. Scholarship may be used for paying tuition, travel, housing, living expenses, etc. Preference given to applicants with career objectives of working in the area of Middle East Studies, working for the State Department, the Dept. of Defense, the CIA, the FBI, and other fed. agencies. Preference also given to applicants that have never traveled to the Middle East.

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student seeking a degree in the College of Business. Student must use funds towards costs of studying abroad, with preference going to students with plans to study in Brazil, Russia, India, or China

Grace Gardener Endowed Scholarship for Study Abroad

Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time that plans to participate in a Study Away program.  The student must demonstrate financial need because of their plans to study abroad, potential to benefit highly from studying abroad, and leadership.

Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship (For Students from the United States and the Republic of China)

Awarded annually to a Missouri State Student planning to study abroad in China or to a student from the People's Republic of China that wishes to study at Missouri State University.  Juniors or greater must be in good academic standing.

How to Apply

 

Students now apply for the nearly 1,000 donor-funded scholarships at Missouri State University using a single online application.

 

  1. Students must be accepted for admission prior to applying.
  • You may apply for admissions to MSU online at Apply for Admissions or you may contact our Office of Admissions toll-free at (800) 492-7900.
  1. Once accepted for admission, students will receive an Admissions Packet, which will include their BearPass Login.
  2. Log into My.Missouristate.edu using that login.
  3. Click the Profile tab within My.Missouristate.
  4. Find the Financial Aid channel within the Profile tab.
  5. Select the General and Department Scholarship Application link and you will be automatically logged into Scholarship Manager.
  6. Once in, you can start your application or search through the database of scholarships.

 

Applications are submitted online and are due May 1, 2012, but we recommend all students submit their applications by March 1, 2012, the date on which many committees begin selecting recipients.
