Who is eligible for the Study Away voucher?
To be eligible for the voucher, students must either be freshmen beginning at Missouri State in Fall 2009 or West Plains transfer students (with a completed Associate's Degree) who enroll for Fall 2009. All students must then successfully complete two semesters on the Springfield campus. All Students must be in good academic standing (GPA equal to or greater than 2.0).
I want to use the voucher to buy my airline ticket to get to my study away destination, is this OK?
If the study away program is approved by the Study Away Office, yes.
I want to go with Professor XYZ who's taking a group of students to Ecuador for language study. Can I use the voucher to pay for this four-week course?
If the program is approved by the Study Away Office, yes you can.
If I enter Missouri State in Fall 2009 and want to use my voucher privilege in the summer of 2010, what do I need to know?
You must complete both fall and spring semester as a full-time student each semester, and also finish the year in good academic standing with the University. Additionally, the study away program has to be approved by the Study Away Office.
I want to enroll in a study away program provided by another university, can I use my voucher on such a program?
Yes, providing the Study Away Office has approved the program.
I plan to backpack through southern Germany during the summer after my freshman year. Can I use my voucher to help with expenses?
No, sorry, the voucher is available for use only in connection with an approved study away program from which you will be receiving class credit.
Do I have to know a foreign language to be able to participate in a study away program?
No. There are many programs taught in English. Students should know that most Spanish-speaking, French-speaking, and German-speaking countries, along with Italy and some schools in Asia, usually require some language proficiency.
Do I have to have a certain academic major to participate in study away programs?
No. Anybody is eligible, though some schools might not offer classes within your major.
How will receiving this voucher affect my financial aid package?
Every student's financial aid package is unique to their personal financial situation. The Study Away office suggests interested students make an appointment to meet with Ms. Becky Ward, Financial Aid Office, 836-5262 to discuss their situation.
