Grace Gardener Endowed Scholarship for Study Abroad

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time that plans to participate in a Study Away program. The student must demonstrate financial need because of their plans to study abroad, potential to benefit highly from studying abroad, and leadership.

Frederick G. Kieferndorf Fine Arts Travel Award

Value

Scholarship amount varies depending on the availability of funding, but awards are usually $500.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

All Department of Art + Design Scholarships require the submission of an Art Portfolio.

Portfolios can be submitted online within the General and Departmental Scholarship Application.

Portfolios should include...

  • Studio Art + Design Majors: 15 pieces of artwork from any medium/media
  • Art History Majors: Original research paper on some aspect of art architecture or art criticism

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or greater majoring in Art + Design demonstrating excellence in drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, sculpture, ceramics metal/jewelry, or digital imagery. Selection based on portfolio and a departmental GPA of 3.0. Award for a student to travel to view an exhibition or museum that has significance to their work and development.   

Student must indicate plans/desire to pursue art-related travel within the Art + Design Section of the online application.

Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship (For Students from the United States and the Republic of China)

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a Missouri State Student planning to study abroad in China or to a student from the People's Republic of China that wishes to study at Missouri State University. Juniors or greater must be in good academic standing.

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Thomas Fullerton Memorial Fund

Selection criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be a full-time sophomore or junior majoring or minoring in French
  • Have demonstrated proficiency in French
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a departmental GPA of 3.4.

First priority to French majors pursuing a teaching degree with a desire to travel to study French culture. Second priority to a student majoring or minoring in French with a desire to travel to study French Culture. Third priority to a student majoring or minoring in French. Awards made with regard for financial need.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. Student will be subject to full review.

Al-Babtain Library Arabic Culture/Language Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded to a student with plans on enrolling in an intensive Arabic Language Program in a country in the Middle East. Scholarship may be used for paying tuition, travel, housing, living expenses, etc. Preference given to applicants with career objectives of working in the area of Middle East Studies, working for the State Department, the Dept. of Defense, the CIA, the FBI, and other fed. agencies. Preference also given to applicants that have never traveled to the Middle East.

DeVries Family Religious Studies Scholarship

Selection criteria

To be considered for this scholarship you must:

  • Be a sophomore or higher
  • Major or minor in religious studies
  • Be enrolled full time
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0

Participate in a University sponsored archaeological excavation in the Middle East or Mediterranean region. The award may be released in full or in part before the start of a summer excavation.

Ballinger-Colon-Compton Award Scholarship

Selection criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be a full-time sophomore or junior majoring in Spanish
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0 and a GPA of 3.5 in Spanish
  • Demonstrate Spanish proficiency

First priority to a junior pursuing a teaching degree that has submitted a proposal for study or travel in a Spanish-speaking country. Second priority to a sophomore that has submitted a proposal for study or travel in a Spanish-speaking country. Awards made with regard to financial need.

BRIC Study Abroad Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student seeking a degree in the College of Business that plans on studying abroad in the academic year of awarding in either Brazil, Russia, India, or China.

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Schyler Elizabeth Strong Biblical Archaeology Award

Selection criteria

To be considered for this scholarship you must:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student in the department of religious studies (antiquities majors are also eligible)
  • Participate in an archaeological excavation in the biblical lands related to biblical research

If no student meets those criteria, religious studies minors may be considered. Need is preferred, and grade point average may be considered. Preference will be given to students who have completed or are taking two biblical studies courses.

William and June Ross Holman Cultural Study Abroad Award

Selection criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be an undergraduate student seeking a degree in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages
  • Have no previous international travel experiences
  • Have maintained an overall GPA of 2.5 and a GPA of 3.0 in their major language
  • Be enrolled in at least 12 hours the semester preceding travel
  • Be traveling to a foreign country for an internship or to pursue a study program

Financial need is considered.

Madeleine Hooper Travel Fund Scholarships

Selection criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be a full-time undergraduate student majoring in a European Language or Chinese
  • Have maintained an overall GPA of 2.5 and a departmental GPA of 3.0
  • Demonstrate a curiosity and adaptability to other cultures through previous international travel experience
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from a professional that can attest to your international travel experience and experience interacting with other cultures
  • Demonstrate leadership through appropriate departmental activities as well as activities associated with your major area of study

Preference will be given for students majoring in French.

Robert L. Trewatha International Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to full-time students majoring or minoring in International Business. Student must be in good academic standing. Preference for those studying abroad. Must submit one-page, single spaced statement about merit and goals.

Dr. Jim Baker China Study Away Scholarship

Selection criteria

A single $1,200 scholarship will be awarded annually to an undergraduate or graduate student participating in a university-approved Study in China Program.

Mollie Autry Molnar Travel Assistance Award

Selection criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be a member of a touring choir at Missouri State University 
  • Be enrolled as a full-time student during the semester in which a trip is made or, if between semesters, the semester immediately prior to travel.

Up to three students each year will be selected to receive the award and recipients may be at any grade level.

Robert Bradley Student Travel Fund

Selection criteria

Student must be a major pursuing a degree in dance, theatre, or musical theatre.  Undergraduate or graduate students may apply, but must be enrolled in 12 or 6 hours, respectively.

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Hom Family Scholarship

Selection criteria

Scholarship(s) will be awarded annually to a student(s) to students enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester at Missouri State University that:

  • Are psychology majors
  • That have completed 45 hours
  • That have minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Accepted for participation in an international study away program, approved by the international education office located in University College, for the fall or spring semester of the academic year following the application.
  • Are active members of the Missouri State Psychology Club

Consideration will be given to college academic achievement, and leadership experiences. Awards will be made without regard for financial need.

It is expected that the recipient of this scholarship shall, upon return from the study away program, be available to make an oral presentation to the Psychology Club as well as to write an article for inclusion in departmental newsletters and publications, summarizing and reflecting upon the study away experience.

If no students are eligible during a funding cycle, funds will be carried over into the next funding cycle.

Additional information

If you receive this scholarship, you are expected to make an oral presentation to the Psychology Club and to write an article for the department of psychology’s newsletter summarizing your study away experience.

The Study Away Voucher I (FA2009-SP2011)

Value

Scholarship amount is $500.

Selection Criteria

To qualify, first-time college students (who enrolled between fall 2009 and spring 2011) must successfully complete one academic year of full-time enrollment at Missouri State Springfield campus and be in good academic standing. MSU West Plains students transferring to the Springfield campus will have automatically met this requirement upon completion of their Associate's degree. The voucher may be used to help cover the costs of an officially approved study away experience.The voucher may be used for tuition, travel expenses, living expenses, or any other expenses related to the study away program.
