Ambassador Application

Missouri State University's English Language Institute Special Programs unit is excited to invite area students to apply for a full program fee waiver (valued at $1450) to attend international summer camps in Springfield, MO.

Public, private, or home school students [ages 10-18] are welcome to apply.

Fee waiver recipients serve as Student Ambassadors, who represent Missouri to visiting international youth.  This experience can be counted as a community service activity.

Student Ambassador Responsibilities:

  • Ethical Leadership - must lead by example and with integrity while encouraging leadership in the international youth
  • Cultural Competence - must be welcoming, flexible, and encouraging to the students as they practice English in an unfamiliar culture
  • Intentional Engagement - must participate with enthusiasm and a positive attitude, focusing on connecting to the students
  • Respectful Behavior - must accept guidelines and instructions from staff
  • Reliability - must arrive on time and stay for the entirety of activities (unless specific arrangements are made with Program Coordinator to miss an activity or leave early)

Cost: Those selected as Student Ambassadors will receive a full fee waiver for the camp(s).

Includes: workshop fees, transportation from MSU to field trip activities, entrance tickets (Silver Dollar City, Springfield Cardinals, etc. -varies by program), and lunch at the MSU dining hall Monday-Thursday while class is in session (vegetarian options available). Ambassadors/parents will be responsible for transportation to and from MSU for each day the program is in session. 

Application Process:

  1. Fill out application below. The selection process will begin in March 2021 and the application will close May 30th or when all available positions have been filled.
  2. Wait for contact from ELI to find out if you have been selected for a phone interview.
  3. Complete interview. A limited number of applicants will be selected based on available tickets and transportation/classroom space.
  4. Applicants who are selected will be required to attend an orientation/training session at the MSU Jim D. Morris Center in downtown Springfield. Orientation dates/times are TBA.
