Missouri State University’s English Language Institute is pleased to offer the Leadership and Oratory Online Program “LOOP”

Objective

The purpose of the Leadership and Oratory Online Program is to develop and sharpen participants’ leadership skills as well as increase their speaking performance through a live, interactive virtual program. Participants will be able to gain a wider perspective on leadership and interpersonal skills that are the keys to success in life through group projects and conversation circles. Additionally, speaking, listening, and pronunciation components will help students improve their presentational and public speaking skills.

Dates

The program will run from Monday, September 13 to Friday, October 8 (4 weeks).

Schedule

LOOP is Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30AM to 10:20AM and Fridays from 8:30AM to 10AM (U.S. Central Time).

Student will receive access to the regularly scheduled Conversation Circles on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-6:50PM.

Course Outline

Pronunciation Workshop: This workshop focuses on specific pronunciation topics that will help participants with vowel and consonant sounds in English, fluency, and intonation.

Public Speaking Workshop: In this workshop, participants will work on leadership topics and learn strategies of public speaking skills used by different past and current leaders. They will study those strategies through videos, modeling, and practicing. This workshop will help participants make effective presentations as well as speak to large audiences. Participants will practice strategies on how to communicate clearly when speaking in public.

Conversation Circles: This section of the class is for participants to put into practice what they learn every day in class. This is a time when all participants, from all levels and classes, will join for conversation, practice pronunciation, and have free conversation time in a comfortable and relaxed environment.

Fridays: Guest speakers to talk about leadership.
