Email Marketing

The Office of Education Abroad, partnered with the Registrar Office, uses email marketing — targeting emails to specific student groups — in an their attempts to recruit students for their programs.

Targeted Emails to Specific Student Groups

One effective tool for recruitment to short-term programs is email marketing.  An email distribution list may be created for you to target specific majors or groups of students for short-term programs.

If you wish for such a list to be generated to help you in your recruitment efforts, please complete the Request Form with the specific parameters of your list. For example, you may wish to include a certain major, with a specific GPA and level of credit hours. You may make your request as broad or narrow as you wish.

The recruitment email must be sent from a University department email account, not a personal account. This is because the University has a policy on targeted mail stating that 250 or more emails is considered spam, and spam is not permitted.

The Office of Education Abroad will send out your recruitment email on your behalf, provided that you send the text of the email and any attachments to EducationAbroad@missouristate.edu. Another option is for you to send your recruitment email from your department email account. When you complete your Request Form, please indicate if you wish to send the distribution list to Education Abroad or to your department.

Please be aware that lists won’t be processed during the first two weeks of the semester. This is done to give students the opportunity to add a FERPA Hold onto their account. If requests are received during the first two weeks of the semester, they’ll be processed during the third week of classes.

Education Abroad encourages you to take advantage of this recruitment tool as you invite students to participate in your program.

Policy restrictions

However, if the list generated contains over 250 email addresses, the recruitment email must be sent from a University department email account, not a personal account. This is because the University has a policy on targeted mail stating that 250 or more emails is considered spam, and spam is not permitted.
