Linguaskill English Test - English Language Institute - International Programs

Linguaskill is an online, at home, multi-level test designed to assess international students at Missouri State University (MSU). MSU’s English Language Institute (ELI) is an authorized Cambridge Exam Center.

The Linguaskill test offers a complete picture of your English abilities, with fast and accurate testing of all four language skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. It is used by Missouri State University for undergraduate and graduate program admission and by the English Language Institute for level placement.

Cost: $115*

Cost: free for English for Academic Purposes program applicants that have paid the EAP application fee.

Subjects: 3 sections (Speaking, Writing, and Reading/Listening) *Our test center only offers the entire test bundle covering all 4 skills.

Length: 3 hours (including 30 min for breaks and pre-test preparation)

Application: Submit your application to register and pay for the Linguaskill test at MSU. After completing the application, you will receive an email confirmation with access codes. Access codes will remain valid one week after your receive the email.

Scoring: As a test center we provide access to LINGUASKILL and monitor test-taking protocols. However, the test is scored by Cambridge Assessment by a team of trained experts. Within 48 hours of taking the test, you will receive an official Lingaskill score report. These scores cannot be modified or appealed.

Testing protocols: Candidates will take the test using an AI system called Talview, and trained MSU instructors will review the footage for any rule violations or validity issues. We reserve the right to withhold official score reports if any rule violation is detected. In case of rule violation, no refund will be issued, nor free test credits allocated. The candidate will also be barred from retaking the test through our center. See all the tech requirements and test security requirements below.

1. You will need a PC or Laptop with a keyboard, webcam, video and audio to take the test. You need to be in a private room alone (nobody else should enter during testing).
  1. The test CANNOT be taken on a tablet (iPad, Galaxy, Surface, or mobile phone)
  2. If you join the test on a tablet or cellphone, your test will be rescheduled.

Before taking the test make sure:
- You are in a private room alone (nobody should enter the room during testing)
  - Testing takes around 3h30m – complete the three parts of the test in one sitting in the recommended order: Speaking (30min) Writing (45min) Reading Listening (85min)
- You are prepared to take the test without interruption sitting at the same testing station during the entire length of the test.
- You have a picture ID ready to show on camera (passport or local ID accepted)
  - Make sure to hold your ID close to the camera so it is legible.
  - Make sure your face is well-lit when on camera.
- You have a single-screen computer or laptop with a stable internet connection (do not access the test via a Smartphone or Tablet)
- No other unauthorized application must be running on your computer while you are taking the test (Including any video or audio AI filter).
  - Only one internet browser and the Talview monitoring system are authorized.
  - Make sure all communication apps are off (TEAMS, WhatsApp, Wechat, Messenger etc.). Turn off all app notifications.
- Your computer has a working camera and sound system
  - You will be asked to survey the testing room with the camera.
    - Survey the room with camera pointing to the room, not to you.
    - Survey the desk/table where you will take the test.
  - Your face must be fully visible on camera during the entire testing time.
  - Your mouth must be visible during the speaking portion.
    - If your mouth is covered, your test results will be withheld.
  - Note-taking is only permitted during the Speaking portion of the test and must be done with a pen and paper, not electronically.
  - It is required to use a headset + microphone both plugged in your computer.
- Note that if you have taken LINGUASKILL online from our test center before and were found in violation of testing protocols, you have been barred from taking the test from our center. If you submit and pay for a retake anyway, your test will be automatically refused and no refund will be issued.

*scores of less than the minimum subscores will require enrollment in a corresponding EAP course during student’s first semester at MSU.
