5 Week CELTA

In five full-time weeks, you will receive the CELTA certificate, which is one of the most internationally recognized TEFL qualifications.

During this time, you will get experience and feedback teaching in-person and get the opportunity to interact with your trainers, peers, and students in-person.

Students may expect to spend many out of class hours reading, preparing lesson plans, and completing assignments. A less intense pace allows more interaction with your CELTA tutors and fellow students, as well as additional time with your practice students. This option also includes three day weekends, with more time to work on assignments, make lesson plans, and reflect.

The 5 Week CELTA course is divided into five disciplines of study

• Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context
• Language analysis and awareness
• Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing
• Planning and resources for different contexts
• Developing teaching skills and professionalism

Sample of a typical day during the 5 Week CELTA course

You will teach 6 hours of assessed teaching practice, usually as eight 45-minute lessons. During your CELTA teaching practice, you will experience teaching grammar, vocabulary, receptive and productive skills, and more. 

You will be teaching classes of 6 to 20 students at two levels who have signed up for free classes offered in the Morris Center at Missouri State University. These students are adult English language learners who live in and around Springfield, Missouri. They have a variety of academic backgrounds and first languages.
