PDPI 2019
Welcome to Missouri State University
The English Language Institute (ELI) staff is looking forward to your arrival and to the six weeks we will spend together, beginning July 1, 2019. We have an exciting curriculum planned, along with educational and cultural activities and trips. For many of you, this will be your first time in the U.S.A, and we want you to have a great experience throughout your stay.
Below are links to some items that you need to complete before your arrival and links to information about life in Springfield, Missouri and the accommodations you will enjoy during the program. We have also set up a Facebook group so that you can communicate with the other participants in your group. In addition, you will find the class schedule for your program in the ELI at Missouri State University. We will be adding more information in the future, so please check this website periodically and be sure to access the Facebook group page often.
Pre-Arrival Information
- Read instructions and set up Student Account
- Complete the Medical History form and bring it with you (if there are sections you are unable to complete, leave them blank)
- Bring a copy of your immunization records with you (you do not need any additional immunizations prior to arrival)
- Learn about living in Springfield, Missouri
- Join the PDPI 2019 Facebook group
Packing List
Items we suggest that you or your roommates bring with you or purchase upon arrival:
- Summer clothes. July and August are usually very warm. However you might want to bring one or two warm clothes just in case it cools down in the morning or at night. The weather can be unpredictable, but the average temperatures for July-August are 66*F to 89*F (19*C to 32*C).
- Any medications you use, as well as glasses or contacts
- Swimsuit (there is a pool inside Foster Recreation Center also at the apartment you are staying at)
- Adaptor Plug-In
- Hair dryer
- Clothes iron (if needed)
- Laptop or mobile device (not required, but recommended for class)
- Pens/pencils/notebook
We will provide the following for you:
- Linens (sheets, blanket, and pillow)
- Bath towel
- Laundry facilities
- All furniture
- Refrigerator
- Microwave
- Oven
- Kitchen equipment (plates, silverware, cooking utensils, mugs, glasses and basic pots)
Arrival
Friday, June 28
- Arrive in the Springfield-Branson National Airport (SGF).
- The Missouri State shuttle will pick you up at the airport and take you to your apartment in Bear Village. Please review their website to learn more about your accommodations.
Saturday, June 29
- Orientation will begin in the morning and last all day.
- Trip to Wal-Mart. We will provide transportation. You will eat meals at the on-campus dining halls. However, you may want to pick up snacks or items like toiletries, and laundry detergent when you shop.
Sunday, June 30
- Free Day.
Monday, July 1
- Get TB Test done and BearPass ID card.
- Classes begin. See your class schedule below.
Tuesday, July 2
- Fireworks for the 4th at Hammons Field (evening).
Saturday, July 13
- We will take a shopping trip to Branson, Missouri. You will have many shopping opportunities at outlet (low-priced) malls.
Free Weekends
There are no activities scheduled on the weekends listed below. You could plan your own travel if you would like to.

July 4 - 7: No classes on July 4 & 5 for Independence Day Holiday. You will have a four-day free weekend.
