English Proficiency Requirements
Proof of your proficiency in English is required if your primary language is not English and you are applying to Missouri State University. If you have not taken either the TOEFL nor the IELTS or your scores are lower than the minimum requirements, you may also complete the English Language Institute program to meet the requirements.
Missouri State University accept proof of your proficiency in three ways:
- a. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)*
The TOEFL score minimum requirements are 61 internet-based test for undergraduate applicants and 79 internet-based test for graduate applicants. You must request that original copies of these scores be sent to Missouri State directly from the Educational Testing Service.
- b. The IELTS
The IELTS score minimum requirements are 5.5 for undergraduate applicants and 6.0 for graduate applicants. You must request that original copies of these scores be sent to Missouri State from an IELTS center.
c. Applicants who have not completed the TOEFL nor IELTS
Applicants who have not completed either the TOEFL nor the IELTS are encouraged to enroll in Missouri State's English Language Institute. Please visit Missouri State's English Language Institute site to learn more about the program.
