What courses can I take?

The exchange with Oxford Brookes is through the Film & Media Studies Department. The courses available at Oxford Brookes vary each semester, but generally students attending there will receive 12 hours of credit for three film ‘modules,’ or classes. Many courses have already received pre-approval from Missouri State University, and you can view this list on the flyer. Students can take up to 4 modules at Oxford Brookes.

Do I need a passport?

Yes. If you do not already have a passport, apply for it immediately! Processing your application can take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks. Oxford Brookes will not be able to process your application to attend the university until they have a copy of the identification page of your passport. If you already have a passport, you should also make sure that the expiration date is at least a year from the date you will be returning to the United States. If it is not, you should renew your passport.

The university is located in Oxford, England. This picturesque city is populated by about 40,000 students from around the world, making up about 20% of the city’s population. Oxford is about 60 miles Northwest of London, and allows easy access to London and other cities in the UK. Trains connect London to Oxford about every 30 minutes with about 55 minutes of travel time, and buses (or coaches) leave every 15-20 minutes with about one hour 20 minutes of travel time.

Oxford also allows easy access to popular tourist destinations such as Stone Henge, Wales, Bath, and Cantebury, and Scotland.

Oxford Brookes offers housing in their residence halls or you can find housing on your own. If you choose to live in the residence halls, placement will vary. You will receive information about applying for housing after you have been accepted to the program. Until then, you can review residence halls on the Oxford Brookes website.

What can I do in Oxford?

Oxford is culturally vibrant: you can enjoy cuisines from around the world, visit cultural landmarks such as the Oxford library, and enjoy a range of activities from seeing a Shakespearean play to shopping for your next raincoat. You can talk a walk down High Street or visit Oxford University’s Museum of Natural History.

If you’re looking for ways to work on your craft, you can get involved in the OXDOX International Documentary Film Festival held in late April – late May every year. This film festival features a different documentary

Throughout the year, Oxford is home to many diverse and exciting festivals. Some of the most popular events include the Cowley Road Carnival, Art in Action, the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival, Oxford Pride, and Dancin’ Oxford Festival.

What else can I do nearby?

There are many film studios in London, including Merton Park Studios, Riverside Studios, Southall Studios, Three Mills Film Studios, and Wimbledon Studios.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards are held early each February. This British ‘Golden Globes’ or ‘Academy Awards’ draws many of the top minds in filmmaking to London every year.

Being in Oxford, you will also have easy access to attend several film festivals throughout the year. The BFI Film Festival takes place in London each October, the Berlin International Film Festival takes place each February, the London Independent Film Festival each April, the Raindance Film Festival held in London each September, and the Cannes Film Festival in May.

What can I do to get involved on campus?
