Service Learning in Peru
Instructor: Colette Witkowski and Carmen Boyd
Program purpose: Students will be immersed in the Peruvian medical system, working alongside Peruvian doctors as they address the dire health needs of medically underserved communities. For example, in Trujillo and Huancayo, medical supply shortages are exacerbated by the sheer volume of patients in the densely populated cities. In Agallpampa, doctors struggle to address the needs of those living in sparsely populated, inaccessible regions. As a service-learning student, you will help provide solutions to the unique challenges presented by Peru’s diverse regions.
During this program, students will observe the immense need of Peru’s children and the extraordinary efforts put forth to provide them hope and good health for the future. The Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC) partners with MSU on this program.
